Fragmentation is the process of forming files from blocks of data (fragments) that can be dispersed across multiple locations around the surface of the drive. Defrag activity hard, both on Windows 7, 8 and 10 is usually done when the user already feel the laptop is too heavy to use open an application. According to some people, defragment the hard drive is one way to get their device back to normal.
But at the moment computer systems are increasingly modern so defragmentation is not a necessity as it used to be. Windows will automatically defragment the mechanical drive, and the defragmentation is not required with a solid-state drive.
However, defragmentation in Windows 10 does not hurt that the drive can operate in the most efficient way possible. You may also need to defrag the external hard disk drive connected via USB, because when Windows runs the automatic defragmentation of external hard drives can not connect.
How to defragment your Hard Disk in Windows 10
First, press the Windows key or click the search box on your taskbar and type "defragment." Click the "defragmentation and optimize your Drive" shortcut on the Start menu.
The Optimize Drives window will appear, and will display all drives on your system that qualify for optimization and defragmentation. If one of your drives does not appear, it may be because Windows 10 can only optimize drives formatted in the NTFS file system. Drives formatted as exFAT in the list will not appear.
Select the drive you want to defrag in the list, then click "Optimize.
On hard disk drives, the function runs routine defragmentation. While on the SSD, its function is to run the TRIM command, which potentially speeds up your drive while operating, but it's not really necessary because Windows does this in the background with modern drives.
Start the process, if the disk needs to be optimized and defragmented. You'll see a full progress indicator percentage in the current Status column.
Optimization and defragmentation Status in Wind
ows 10When The process is complete, the time in the Last Run column will be updated, and current Status will read something similar to "OK (0% fragmented)."
The process of optimization and defragmentation is finished on Windows 1
0Congratulations, your drive has been successfully defragmented. If you want, you can schedule regular defragmentation sessions in the Optimize Drives window by clicking the "Turn On" button in the "Scheduled Optimizations" section. Thus, you don't need to do it manually in the future. After per
forming the steps as above, then close the Optimize Drives window and use your computer as usual.
